The Klingon Q3 Fleet Tanker.
-----------------------------------------------
With the conversion of many Klingon warships to MAM technology Warp Drive during the mid 2100's and the expansion of the Klingon empire that followed, it was soon apparent that the old Q1 and Q2 Deutronium carrying fleet tankers were going to need to be replaced. The Q1 was powered by fusion and the Q2 by impulse power. Neither the Q1 or Q2 could attain Warp 3 and consumed much of their cargo of Deutronium the further they had to travel.

The other problem with both the Q1 and Q2 was that they could not be fitted with Disrupters, mainly as they lacked the power to arm them, so relied totally on Mercurite drone missiles for defence.

During the long Klingon - Romulan War of 2162 to 2181, Q1 and the later Q2 tankers repeatedly fell prey to Romulan ambushes and attacks, sometimes leaving whole Klingon battlefleets stranded in hostile Romulan space.

So in 2184 the Klingon Navy introduced its first MAM powered tanker, the Q3.

The Q3 was hastily designed and bore many features associated with Klingon civilian vessels, in particular barges. The B'anarix Warp Drive system was utilised as it was reliable, low maintainance and already in service on several other Klingon vessels such as the A1 corvette. This gave the Q3 a maximum speed of Warp 4.6, which was nearly as fast as some of the Klingon warships it served and considerably faster than some of the older pre-MAM technology warships still in the Klingon Navy.

The T-shaped forward command hull allowed for the end mounted Disrupters to cover good firing arcs and much of the cross hull is dedicated to the weapon systems. Shuttle craft are also carried for defence and ship evacuation.

Federation crews nicknamed the Q3 the "Hammerhead" after its distinct shape.

The role of the Q3 was to keep the Klingon Deep Space Fleet supplied with both anti-matter, for the MAM Warp reactors, and Deutronium slush for the Impulse engines and shuttle craft hangar supply tanks. It mainly served on long haul fueling runs to battle fleets that were sometimes advancing deep into hostile territory or behind enemy lines.

The fuel tank itself had the anti-matter containment bottle in its core with baffled Deutronium sludge tanks surrounding it.
A small Fusion reactor supplied power for the containment bottle with a back up battery in case of reactor failure. In emergency imminent containment failure situations the fuel tank could be separated by explosive bolts and solid fuel boosters would propel it downwards away from the ship.

In the rare instances that this needed to be enacted the host ships still managed to suffer blast damage from the ensuing explosion.

Steps to install:
-----------------
(1) Unpack zipped file.

(2) Move the model folder to Starfleet Command/Assets/Models folder. If you're smart enough to have all the races in seperate folders then place this ship in the Federation folder.

(3) Copy the Shiplist fragment and paste it into the appropriate race and part of your Shiplist file in Starfleet Command/Assets/Specs/Sfbspc13.txt

(4) Modify the model folder references to suit your own SFC models directory structure.

NOTE: You must have at least one stock SFC game ship in human player squadrons to use this ship in multiplayer games. However, AI player squadrons are not bound by this restiction/problem and can have all three ships non-stock ships if desired.

These ship has been put under the Klingon F for Freighters part of the SFBSPC13.TXT, so that it can be called up for use in scripts using the FMSE (Fleet Model Script Editor) software add on by Eagle Eye Software. If you want to actually be able to select this ship, in normal SFC select ships, you will have to move it into the FF, CL, CA or DN part of the listing.
